The Community Boards have been set up to represent
local opinions and aspirations, wants and needs. They do this through
their members as representatives of the local population
and through inviting the general public to their meetings.
The
boards will be able to determine longer-term priorities for their areas,
to make future bids for funding both from the Council and external
bodies, and to provide advice to all partners on the Community
Partnership.Read Stronger Together, A Community Strategy for

Emsworth Community Board Comes to Town
June 21st saw the first in a series of public displays by
the Community Board in International Hall in The Square. The
focus on this occasion was the work they have been
spearheading on user-friendly access into and around the
town.
More informal ‘Meet the Board’ events are planned for the
months ahead to enable people to see what the Board is
involved in and to express their views and suggestions in an
informal, chatty atmosphere over a cup of tea or coffee.
Dates to watch out for are: 16th August and 25th October,
both at International Hall between 10am and midday.
Do come in and say hello – after all WE are YOU. In fact, we
are looking for two new board members, so why not call in to
find out how you could become involved in improving the
quality of life in Emsworth.

Community Street Audit
There is a clearly established case for encouraging people
to walk or cycle around town instead of using their cars.
The case for cycling was documented in A Strategy for Cycle
Route Development in Emsworth published by Emsworth
Community
Board in March 2007. This should be read in conjunction with
this report.
The cycling strategy report was presented to local
government transport officers who recommended that the needs
of pedestrians should also be considered. They proposed that
a Community Street Audit should be carried out to provide a
comprehensive list of improvements that would encourage more
people to walk and cycle around Emsworth. Such a list could
form the basis for a formal Town Access Plan for Emsworth
which would be consulted when funding for highways projects
became available. Emsworth Community Board undertook to
carry out the Street Audit with the help of other Emsworth
residents. All those who took part were volunteers. Planning
for the Street Audit took place during the summer of 2007
and the street surveys took place in October/November 2007.
Conclusions from the audit were consolidated and published
in March 2008.
